【摘要】:Thispracticecoversproceduresforcalibratinganddeterminingperformanceofanopticalliquid-borneparticlecounter(LPC)whichusesanopticalsystembaseduponlightextinctionmeasurement.ThispracticeisdirectedtowardsdeterminationofaccuracyandresolutionoftheLPCforcharacterizingthesizeandnumberofparticles,whichhavebeenpassedintothesampleinletoftheLPC.Considerationofinletsamplingefficiencyisnotpartofthispractice.Theprocedurescoveredinthispracticeincludethosetomeasuresamplevolumeandflowrate,zerocountlevel,particlesizingandcountingaccuracy,particlesizingresolution,particlecountingefficiency,andparticleconcentrationlimit.Theparticlesizeparameterreportedinthispracticeistheequivalentopticaldiameterbasedonprojectedareaofcalibrationparticleswithknownphysicalpropertiesdispersedinliquid.ThemanufacturernormallyspecifiestheminimumdiameterthatcanbereportedbyanLPC;thedynamicrangeoftheLPCbeinguseddeterminesthemaximumdiameterthatcanbereportedforasinglesample.Typicalminimumreporteddiametersareapproximately2'm,andatypicaldynamicrangespecificationwillbeapproximatelyfrom50to1.ThecountingratecapabilityoftheLPCislimitedbytemporalcoincidenceofparticlesinthesensingvolumeoftheLPCandbythesaturationlevelormaximumcountingratecapabilityoftheelectronicsizingandcountingcircuitry.CoincidenceisdefinedasthesimultaneouspresenceofmorethanoneparticlewithintheLPCopticallydefinedsensingzoneatanytime.Thecoincidencelimitisastatisticalfunctionofparticleconcentrationinthesampleandthesensingzonevolumewhenparticlesizeisinsignificantincomparisontothesensingvolumedimensions.Thislimitationmaybemodifiedbythepresenceofparticleswithdimensionsolargeastobeasignificantfractionofthesensingzonedimension.ThesaturationlevelrateoftheelectroniccountingcircuitryshallbespecifiedbythemanufacturerandisnormallygreaterthantheLPCrecommendedmaximumcountingratefortheparticleconcentrationsusedforanyportionofthispractice.CalibrationinaccordancewithallpartsofthispracticemaynotberequiredforroutinefieldcalibrationofanLPCunlesssignificantchangeshaveoccurredinoperationoftheLPCormajorcomponentrepairsorreplacementshavebeenmade.TheLPCshallthenbetakentoasuitablemetrologyfacilityforcompletecalibration.Normalroutinefieldcalibrationmaydeterminesampleflowrate,zerocountlevel,andparticlesizingaccuracy.ThespecificLPCfunctionstobecalibratedshallbedeterminedonthebasisofagreementbetweenthepurchaserandtheuser.Themaximumtimeintervalbetweencalibrationsshallbedeterminedbyagreementbetweenthepurchaserandtheuser,butshallnotexceedtwelvemonths,unlessLPCstabilityforlongerperiodsisverifiedbymeasurementsinaccordancewiththispractice.Thisstandardmayinvolvehazardousmaterials,operation,andequipment.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
